Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing Project Starts June 23rd!

 KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY RESURFACING PROJECT
West Hind Drive to the Vicinity of Hanauma Bay Road

AINA HAINA THROUGH HAWAII KAI

The Hawaii Department of Transportation is continuing its goal of resurfacing Oahu’s major highway corridors. Beginning on June 23, 2014, our contractor, Grace Pacific LLC, will be working on the Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing Project from West Hind Drive to the vicinity of Hanauma Bay Road.
Project benefits consist of the reconstruction and resurfacing of the asphalt roadway to provide a durable, smooth riding surface. Additional construction activities include repairs to the Wailupe Stream Bridge end wall, adjustment of utility manholes, installations of pavement markings, vehicle loop detectors, a traffic counting system, guardrail end treatment systems, and the planting of trees. Construction work is scheduled to begin on June 23, 2014, and expected to be completed by February 2016.
Two lanes will be closed at a time to allow for construction and a safety zone. Traffic will be contraflowed through the project area. Work is anticipated to begin in the eastbound direction near West Hind Drive. Lane closures will be scheduled on weekdays, excluding holidays, as follows:

• From West Hind Drive to Hawaii Kai Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily.

• From Hawaii Kai Drive to the vicinity of Hanauma Bay Road from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily.

Motorists are advised that on-street parking within the project areas will be prohibited during these work hours. Please observe the prohibited parking dates and times posted on roadways. Motorists should observe and obey all traffic control devices, posted signs, and instructions from Special Duty police officers. Drivers are advised to slow down for safety, allow for extra travel time, and to expect delays. Updated lane closure information will be posted on the Hawaii Department of Transportation website on Fridays at  hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/oahu/.  Hawaii Department of Transportation Public Affairs Office Telephone: (808) 587-2160 E-mail: dotpao@hawaii.gov
